Domaine de Fumel (ADULTS ONLY) offers a haven of peace and tranquility for the discerning holidaymaker seeking a luxury gite for 2 people in the Dordogne.
Designed for couples seeking a romantic cottage, Martha's Nest is also ideal for those on holiday with a group and wanting to share facilities. The gite is named after Martha Barrou, our sweet fluffy (ex) cat, who had her kittens here before the gite was renovated.
Martha's Nest is a compact gite for 2 people, all on one level, it revolves around a beautifully decorated and spacious room. The kitchen has a hob, dishwasher, fridge with separate freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, iron and cool box. There is a small dining table with 2 chairs and a two seater sofa. There is a comfortable bed of 180 cm wide. The bathroom is large, equipped with a bath with integrated shower attachment, toilet, sink and washing machine.
Outside
The solar heated floodlit pool is 14m x 7m. The pool has a deep end of 2.2 m and a shallow end of 0.9 m with Roman steps. It sits on the edge of a gentle grassy hillside and benefits from rural views and inspiring sunsets. There are plenty of sunbeds around the pool, which is carefully covered every night to keep the solar gains at temperature. For your enjoyment, a hot tub has been added to the end of the pool deck, which is also carefully covered each night to keep the water warm. For even more fun, we've also created a giant chess set. The south courtyard overlooks the pool and lawns, and is well shaded. Ideal during the hot summers. The surrounding gardens are largely laid to lawn and various trees for shade. Various trees provide cherries that are ready to eat in June, but there are also figs, walnuts and grapes that are ready to use in meals in September. There are also three ponds, filled with goldfish eager for your stale bread. A word of warning - from April to June the frogs croak happily, they can be quite noisy!
The luxury accommodation at Domaine de Fumel is just a 20-minute drive from Bergerac Airport. Ideal if you want to go on holiday to the Dordogne by plane. The land surrounding the domaine has been designated a "Reserve de repeuplement" by the local Chasse, meaning it is not allowed to be hunted and has therefore become a haven for all local wildlife. Golden Oriels and nightingales enchant us in spring and early summer; buzzards, owls, bats and hawks entertain us all summer and fall. Due to a careful policy of pesticides in agriculture and vines, the country benefits from wild orchids and mother-of-pearl butterflies in early summer.
