Deze woningen bestaan uit een reeks holen die aan beide kanten van de oude middeleeuwse defensie-lijn van "Castrum" vormden,d.w.z. een versterkte stad van 11de eeuw. In het tertiaire tijdperk groef de rivier met zijn bedding deze horizontale sloot, waaruit de holen ontstonden. Deze werden gekoloniseerd in de Prehistorie , het Neolithische tijdperk en later in de Middeneeuwen. |

Ces habitations sont constituées d’un ensemble de grottes alignées de part et d’autre de l’ancien fossé de défense médiéval du « Castrum », c’est à dire la ville fortifiée du XIème siècle (Belvès ayant été fondée par les celtes Bellovaques vers 250 av JC). C’est à l’ère tertiaire qu’une rivière creusa son lit à l’emplacement de ce fossé, ainsi que ces grottes. Celles-ci furent colonisées à la préhistoire, au Néolithique, puis au Moyen-Age. | |  | K. These dwellings consist of a series of caves aligned on both sides of the old medieval line of defense of the "Castrum", i.e. the strengthened city of 11th century It is at the tertiary era that a river dug its bed with the site of this ditch, like these caves. These were colonized in prehistory, the Neolithic era, then in the Middle Ages. | | | Diese Wohnungen bestehen aus einer Reihe Höhlen, die auf beiden Seiten der alten mittelalterlichen Verteidigungslinie des
