Grand Roc (1927). In Les Eyzies richting station, kruis de overweg en vervolgens de Vézère en sla rechtsaf. Aan de linkerzijde ziet u de hoge kalkliffen. Daar is de Grand Roc. Integenstelling tot wat de naam doet vermoeden is dit een kleine grot die vooral gekenmerkt wordt door een ongelooflijke rijkdom aan allerlei heel kleine druipsteenformaties en kristallisaties.
In de onmiddelijke omgeving is de archeologische vindplaats Laugerie Basse te vinden. Als u echter een grote grot verwacht, komt u bedrogen uit. De tour duurt ongeveer 30 minuten. |

La Grotte du Grand Roc ouvre au public en 1927, trois années après la découverte, durée nécessaire pour effectuer les aménagements intérieurs et extérieurs. Les premiers visiteurs sont tous équipés d'une bougie, ce qui rend la visite pittoresque mais n'offre pas un grand confort de vision. Viendront ensuite les lampes à acétylène, puis l'électricité en 1934. En 1933, l'éclairage de la grotte est totalement repensé. Une équipe d'éclairagistes de spectacle réussit à concilier les contraintes du lieu (fragilité, difficulté d'accès, conservation) avec une véritable mise en scène artistique des cristallisations.

Grand Roc (1927);3 years were necessary to install the interior and the exterior of the cave. The first visitors only had candles, hence a quite picturesque visit, during which not much could be seen. Acetylene lamps came later and in 1934 the electricity was installed. In 1993, the lighting of the cave was entirely reorganized. Engineers managed to conciliate the various features of the site (fragility, difficult access, necessary preservation) with a genuine artistic mise en scène of all crystallizations. |

Grand Roc (1927); 3 Jahre waren notwendig, um das Inneren und das Äußere der Grotte anzulegen. Die ersten Besucher hatten nur Kerzen, während deren nicht viel gesehen werden könnte. Acetylenlampen kamen später und in 1934 wurde die Elektrizität angebracht. 1993 wurde die Beleuchtung der Grotte völlig reorganisiert. | |
