La Bessonie used to be a farm worker house. In the thirties the steep high roof (as can be seen on the other houses in the hamlet) was raised, so that a floor was created. There is a beautiful large private swimming pool that is cleaned on salt and heated in the early and late season (from autumn 2021). Free WIFI.
Description
In 2000, the former old barn has been attached to the main house. This annex now consists of an extra bedroom with its own washing stand, a toilet and a scullery. The groundfloor further consists of one big room, containing the living room, kitchen and dining room. At the 1st floor are 3 bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and a toilet.
The house is well equipped with i.e. a washing machine, a dishwasher and a gascooker with hot air oven. A Hifi music set is available, but no TV. There is a central heating system and a large fireplace. Bedroom downstairs: 2 single beds; upstairs one bedroom with a double bed, one bedroom with a battery bed and a small bedroom with a single bed. Cot available. Please bring your own bed linen.
Outside
La Bessonie has a wonderful veranda to the house. These can be reached from the kitchen, but also from the garden. The partly fenced area, with a meadow and fruittrees and walnuttrees. The house is facing south. In front of the house is a terrace with a lime tree giving shade. From the house and the terrace you have a nice view and you see a glimpse of the beautiful castle of Hautefort. The private swimming pool with an alarm measures 12 x 6 meters. At the lot there is an old small cottage and a barn and a cabane (pig-sty).

The hamlet La Bessonie consists of some barns and 8 cottages of which half is still inhabited and a part is being used by cattle-breeders. The nearest village at 2 km is Cherveix Cubas at the river Auvézère. There is a baker, a grocery shop, a butcher and a pharmacy. The nearest town is Excideuil (8 km), but also Hautefort (6 km) has many facilities like a supermarket.
The landscape in the Dordogne at the border of the Périgord Vert and Blanc exists of an alternating landscape of forests, sloping pastures and small villages, rivers and lakes. The region is well-known for its nature, rich history (castles) and the delicious regional dishes.
Activities
Walking and biking. There are walking tracks and mountainbike tracks. Canoes can be rented at all rivers (Auvézère, Vézère, Dordogne). There are many caves you can visit. Visit the famous castle of Hautefort. This castle is known as one of the most beautiful castles of France and is a national monument. The castle is surrounded by beautiful gardens (French and English landscape gardens).
