WELCOME TO ‘CASTELWOOD VACANCES’

CASTEL: Biron Castle is a group of castles rather than a single one. The family of Gontaut Biron were the owners for ten generations. Every now and then another part was built on; always in the style of the time, either residential or defensive. That is why this group of castles is so unique.

WOOD : There is a wood at the foot of the hill on which the castle and its village are located. A wood with a large variety of trees and rich in wildlife. Nestled in between those trees are our 15 wooden chalets. Each chalet has more than 50m² (540 sq.ft.) living space as well as a spacious veranda of 15m² (160 sq.ft.). They are fully and comfortably equipped.

VACANCES : Holidays to the rhythm of nature, peace and relaxation. No disco music in the evening, or noisy activities during the day. There’s a swimming pool where you can cool down and laze around. We, your hosts, can point you to all the marvellous things to do and to see in our beautiful region – a region we know as well as the backs of our hands.

 

The chalets
Each chalet has its own name (see site plan) and is equipped for 4 people.
The chalets have been designed and constructed in a New Zealand style. They have been built with Douglas fir and Scotch pine. The roofs are the same colour as the local slate tiles, blending well with the environment. They also play shadow games with the leaves of the trees. The outside of the chalets are the colour of patinated wood, which corresponds also to the local style.

Each chalet is roomy with more than 50m² (540 sq .ft) floor space, as well as a veranda of 15m² (160 sq. ft.). One of the chalets is built for physically disabled people and complies with national regulations.
The interior is in the Périgord style, with the roofbeams close together and with an elevated pitch to the roof. The latter allows for a bedroom for 2 people on the mezzanine floor. Downstairs there is an open style kitchen, a living room with a comfortable seating arrangement, a separate toilet, a bathroom with shower and washbasin and another bedroom for 2 people. The veranda has a garden table and chairs, for your meals or drinks outside.

Surroundings
Biron is situated in the sector of the Purple Périgord (the colour of its red wine), in the southern Dordogne. It borders on the departments of the Lot and the Lot-et-Garonne, giving you greater access to a large number of tourist sites.
Biron Castle dominates the landscape and is surrounded by a small village with old stone houses. Our park is situated at a leisurely 10 minutes walk downhill from the Biron castle, on the road to Lacapelle Biron.
