Manoir Médoc is a mansion en pierre (meaning built with old stones) from 1872 for 6 to 8 persons (8 persons at request), situated in the village square in Vertheuil in the Médoc, part of the Gironde region, 50km north of Bordeaux. Vertheuil lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde river. The banks of the Gironde at 5 minutes, the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean (Montalivet les-Bains) at 15 minutes and the beautiful Lake of Hourtin at 15 minutes. The house adjacent to the Mairie (townhall). On the other side the historic church and abbey. Vertheuil lies in the middle of nature, between the vineyards and a few km from Pauillac and St Estèphe. A holiday and stay in Vertheuil is ideal for hikers, nature lovers, Chateaux wine lovers and sports such as sailing, surfing, cycling, horse riding, fishing and golf.

Description
The house has been recently restored and equipped with all comfort, while maintaining the authentic elements such as 4m high ceilings, wood paneling, original tile floors and fireplaces.
Ground floor: living room with a fireplace, dining room, fully equipped modern kitchen with another separate dining room. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, professional 5-burner gas cooker with electric oven and refrigerator and freezer.
The original stone staircase leads to the first floor with 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms:  Hall, a spacious bedroom with a double bed and a large fireplace with en-suite bathroom with bath, toilet and sink. Two bedrooms each with a double bed. Two bedrooms, each with a single bed. Second bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. Old wooden floors. Books, information, maps, games are available

Outside
Behind the house, also accessible via a gate in a dead end street, are 2 enclosed gardens (approx 300m2), of which 1 with total privacy. In the garden is a grange (barn) with a washing machine, toilet and bikes. In  front of the house is a bed of roses and lavender.

Surroundings
From the house you look out over the square and the church with the abbey. In Vertheuil (about 1200 inhabitants) is a Tabac, also selling newspapers, books and also fishing gear, a bakery - small grocery, post office and a Crêperie with bed & breakfast. On Sunday there is a small market with vegetables and fruit, flowers and oysters.

Activities
Nearby the house there are beautiful and varied opportunities for walking and cycling. The golf courses of Margaux, Lacanau, Pian-Médoc are all on about 30 minutes away. Horse riding in Cissac. The beaches within 20 minutes. Sailing, windsurfing and canoeing at the lake of Hourtin. Fishing in the Gironde.

Médoc
Medoc is located in the province of Aquitaine. This part of France consists of a combination of landscapes which is rare find: ocean, lakes, rural areas, hills, mountains and valleys with many vineyards, where many famous wines are being produced. The Medoc is situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde region and enjoys a microclimate with very pleasant temperatures. The Aquitaine has kilometers long, fine and wide sandy beaches. It is also an eldorado for surfers. Nature is immense between the Atlantic ocean with its vast beaches and the famous Lake of Hourtin (19 km long and 3 to 4 km wide) in the north lined by a swamp and on the west by a dune belt with heights up to 60 meters. All this is interspersed with attractive villages and famous names such as Pauillac, with its Chateaux Lafitte, Latour and Mouton Rothschild.

Wine
The Médoc region is primarily known for its many vineyards. The red Bordeaux wine ranging from good to very good for the Médoc wines and excellent for aristocratic Haut-Medoc wines. The Grand Cru Classe wines have status have magical names as Margaux, Saint-Julien and Pauillac.
